Energy labels

Advertising on Seznam must comply with applicable legislation, including requirements regarding the display of energy labels for selected categories of products.

Regulation (EU) 2017/1369 establishes the framework for the labeling of so-called energy-related products (ErP) with energy labels. The objective of this regulation is to provide consumers with clear and comparable information concerning the energy efficiency of products, thereby facilitating informed decision-making during the purchasing process.

Energy labels must be displayed not only at the point of sale on e-commerce platforms but also in visual advertisements and other promotional materials. This obligation applies to a broad range of products that directly or indirectly impact energy consumption and is governed by specific implementing acts of the European Union.

EPREL refers to the European Product Database for Energy Labelling—a centralized European database in which all models of products subject to energy labeling requirements must be registered.

Registration in the database is mandatory for suppliers prior to placing the product on the market. Retailers may retrieve information from the database, including the official version of the energy label and product specifications.

When is it necessary to display an energy label?

    The energy label must be displayed whenever an advertisement promotes a specific product that falls within the category of energy-related products (ErP) (tzv. ErP).

    When is the energy label not required?

    The energy label is not required if the advertisement:

    • Does not refer to a specific product (for example, a general statement such as “Wide range of refrigerators”);
    • And does not include detailed product specifications such as technical data, energy class, and/or price.

    Requirements for the energy label’s appearance

    The energy label must:

    • Be clearly visible, legible, and unambiguous;
    • Comply with Regulation (EU) 2017/1369 and other relevant delegated acts;
    • Be presented in the approved format generated via EPREL (custom or unofficial visuals are not permitted);
    • The arrow may point either to the left or to the right, although the State Energy Inspection recommends the arrow be directed to the left (here);
    • Be positioned in close proximity to the price of the advertised product.

    Use of any labels other than the official versions is prohibited.

    Furthermore, it is not permitted to apply energy labels to products outside the scope of energy labeling regulations. The labels must be used exclusively where explicitly mandated by the relevant legislation.
